It takes me about 25 minutes to get to work, and I'm in three different states during the drive and I cross two rivers. I start out in some mild commuter traffic...well, okay, actually I start out at Starbucks. After about 5 minutes, I'm in farmland: grain-filled fields, fallow fields, cows having breakfast, horses grazing. It's not entirely flat, but there's a lot of sky. I get to some hills and woods, and then the road narrows to one lane in each direction. Crossing the Potomac into Virginia, I can see Harpers Ferry upriver to my right, the church steeple poking up above the brick buildings through the trees. Sometimes there's fog in the river valleys or drifting up the hillsides in tufts.
